Don’t be Fashionably Late When Networking

When it comes to business/professional networking, cocktail party arrival rules do not apply — get there early (not fashionably late). Arriving early at a networking event or meeting is a much better strategy than getting there late. Early in an event, people will not have settled in to cliques or groups yet (most amateur networkers talk to who they already know — bonus tip: don’t do that). It’s easier to find other people who aren’t engaged in conversation yet. As an additional benefit, if you help the event organizer(s) set-up for the event, you better believe they’ll look for ways to return the favor during the event by introducing you to folks who can help you.
