Talk TO People, Not Through Them

When you are at a networking event (or any meeting with another individual for that matter), be fully engaged and focused on the people you interact with. Listen well, respond promptly, maintain eye contact, etc. — be present, not just there. If you are truly present in the moment, people will appreciate you and want to work with you in some way. Many people only seem to be “half there,” or talk/look through you for someone more important than you — so be fully engaged and you’ll stand out (in a good way).
